The Etherow Model Boat Club has been sailing at the Etherow Country Park for over 30 years. Members of the club enjoy 365 days sailing per year from our own purpose-built landing stage situated on the small feeder lake adjacent to the Lodge Lake.
Besides sailing, members also exhibit models at various events throughout the year, including an Open Day at Etherow, held every June.
With an annual membership of over 120 people there is an enormous variety in the scale boats section. There are small tugs, fishing boats, sail boats, bulk carriers, workboats, submarines and warships to name but a few.

Some members have beautifully- engineered steam-powered
models, though there are strict safety rules to be observed regarding boilers and gas cylinders.
For those who like competitive yacht racing, we have a good fleet of one-design
Fiestas that take part every month. We have a number of bigger yachts in the club and plan to hold some handicap-scored race events in future.
There is a special class of racing fast electric craft called Club 500 where the size of batteries, and type of motor are specified with as minimum length of 500mm.
Unfortunately, we cannot sail models powered by I.C. engines due to the wildlife in the park.
