Club Rules

These are the current rules. For 2006/7 and onward the Constitution elements will be extracted from the Rules to produce two documents.

1. Every club member must undertake to abide by the sailing regulations, all leases, insurances and by-laws afecting the club.

2. The Annual Subscription will be due on 1 January. Any member in arrears by 28 February will no longer be a member of the club.

3. Adjustments to subscriptions may only be made at the AGM or an EGM.

4. All members shall have the use of any apparatus or amenities the club may have.

5. Club members must not place their boats or equipment on the park seats and must give priority to the general public to use the seating within the park.

6. Club members wishing to invite members of other clubs to sail on the EMBC water must accompany the visitor at all times.

7. It is the responsibilty of all club members to prevent the sailing of boats on EMBC water by people who are not members or invited to do so.

8. Any member having a complaint concerning the conduct of another member shall put the complaint in writing.

9. The Committee reserve the right to terminate the membership of any member who: A: Brings the club into disrepute. B: Is the subject of continual complaints by others. C: Does not abide with the club rules. D: Does not protect the transmitter aerial. E: Harasses the wildfowl.

10. Applications for membership must be approved by the General Secretary.

11. All members should wear a current Club Membership Badge when on the landing stage, and at all club events either at home or away.

12. Should the club cease to exist, all moneys after liabilities are paid in full are to go to the R.N.L.I.

Members, when sailing, must abide by the Sailing Regulations:

Sailing Regulations

These regulations have been drawn up for the safety, legal protection and passtime enjoyment of all our members; payment of subscription is taken to be indicative that the member concerned is willing to abide by the said regulations.

1. Launching, sailing and recovery of models must only take place from EMBC staging and under no circumstances from the public embankment. Damaged or disabled models, however, may be recovered from the public embankment.
2. The use of the landing stage and rescue boat is entirely the responsibilty of the member(s) concerned and the club as a whole, or any individual member thereof, disclaims liability for accidents howsoever they may be caused.
3. Members are permitted to have guests on the landing stage on the understanding that the club as a whole, or any individual member thereof, disclaims liability for accidents howsoever they may be caused. Under crowded conditions, or when competitions are being held, members are expected to exercise discretion regarding guests.
4. Junior members are not permitted to bring guests on the landing stage other than parents or guardians.
5.Members must wear lifejackets whilst using the rescue boat. Lifejackets are kept in the boat. Further lifejackets are available from the Wardens office.
6. Junior members are not permitted to use the rescue boat or be a passenger under any circumstances.
7. Only vessels propelled by the use of Sails, Electric or Steam units are permitted on EMBC waters under terms of the lease. Oil traps must be fitted, where appropriate, to steam driven craft.
8. Members can expect to sail every day throughout the year except the dates and times given by the various sections for the use of club and open competitions at the beginning of each year.
9. During free sailing and competitions times, members must select a frequency from the Frequency Board and either place their club badge or other identification token onto the peg.
10.The token must be removed from the Frequency Board when sailing is complete.
11. At busy times or when a fellow member has no alternative frequency and is waiting to sail, members must limit themselves to fifteen minutes on the water.
12. Transmitter antennae should at all times have: A: Some form of protection at the end. B: Colour code reflecting frequency in use.
13. Members operating boats or other equipment which utilizes pressure vessels such as boilers, gas tanks etc., must hold a valid and appropriate test certificate for each item. If it is proposed to operate pressurised equipment in any public place, members must be prepared to show such certificates to an officer of the club or any other authorised person on request. Failure to produce certificates will necessitate an immediate cessation of operation, and in the case of gas tanks, immediate removal from such public place. The foregoing regulation does not deter the use of commercial nonrefillable canisters of liquid petroleum gas in accordance with the makers instructions.
14. Finally, the pleasure and safety of our pastime depends largely on the courtesy and common sense of our members. The landing stage is potentially a dangerous place, particularly for children. Members are respectfully reminded that it only takes a fraction of a second of reckless or irresponsible action on the water or on the stage to maim a wildfowl or ruin the handiwork of months or years of a fellow member.
